AMHSA President Mike Burke completes the London to Brighton cycle challenge
After celebrating his 66th birthday two days earlier, AMHSA President, Mike Burke, took to the saddle, got on his bike and completed the 55.2 mile London to Brighton Cycle Challenge in aid of his nominated charity, Parkinson’s UK.
The route is as gruelling as they come and Mike managed to complete the course in under 4 hours. Whats’ more, he conquered the formidable penultimate challenge – the notorious Ditchling Beacon climb, without getting off to walk, but instead staying on his trusty steed all the way to the very top! To top the journey off Mike recorded a top speed of over 47 mph on the descent into Brighton!
“It was a perfect day for the ride” said Mike. “It wasn’t too cold at the 08:00 start and it stayed warm and dry throughout the journey with very little wind to hamper our progress. The camaraderie throughout the journey made it a real pleasure to ride and making it to the top of Ditchling was a proud moment for me!”.
Mike completed the course with his daughter, Fallan, her partner, Jamie, and his brother and sister-in-law, Jason and Jess. Together they have raised money for Parkinson’s UK, Macmillan and Great Ormond Street Hospital.
A superb effort by all and all in aid of some wonderful causes. If you would like to make a contribution and support Mike by sponsoring him then you can make a donation no matter how small on his Just Giving page using the link below.
