Element Logic, Autostore™, Linney and their partner.

AMHSA members were treated yesterday to an up close and personal experience of one of the more recent technologies employed for the storing, retrieving, managing and distributing of goods in an automated material handling and distribution supply chain. The innovative Autostore™ system employed by Linney, a leading, experienced full-service logistics marketing group with a specialism in e-commerce fulfilment.

Just before the pandemic the Linney board had developed their strategy to become a leader in their sector and to offer world-class service provision in all of their activities. Roll forward three years and with the pandemic under control, plans were initiated and Element Logic were engaged to deliver their objectives.

Sizable & Scalable Growth Development

Initially, the first phase of the plan saw the introduction of a system with 25 robots and 16,000 bins to manage the increasing demand of the golden quarters , Black Fridays and other annual peak customer demand periods. Today the business has grown from strength to strength and the with the introduction of a further 15,000 bins and a further 10 robots the site enjoys many successes including the management of over 50 major business, including several major high street retailers and suppliers,  brands’ tactical product promotion marketing plans, and all in in only about 12% of the total distribution centre space.

System Scalability & Flexibility

Furthermore, following the success of the Autostore system, Linney decided to further enhance the their whole process and include an automated packaging system. Working with their supplier partner, CMC introduced their Genesys system which has led to further human resource and time savings in their processes and to other cost reductions including postage and material wastage whilst improving metrics analysis of other process activities.

Successes celebrated all round - tea and cakes to round the day off

The event was an absolute triumph and proved extremely successful allowing AMHSA members to witness the system and to enjoy network opportunities with other members. And if that was not enough we owe special thanks to Element Logic’s, Theresa MacDonald, who provided some sweet treats to celebrate the success that automation machinery & equipment manufacturers and suppliers are delivering to businesses, like Linney, to meet their aspirational strategies.
